You have just seven days left if you wish to register to vote in the General Election, being held on Thursday, 4 July.
You need to be on the electoral register by 11.59pm on Tuesday, 18 June if you want to cast your vote in the General Election.
This is an important opportunity for you to exercise your democratic right to vote, so be sure to register in time if you want your voice to be heard nationally.
Registering at your term-time address
Did you know that you can register at your term-time address so you can cast your vote in Liverpool, even if you’re registered at your home address too (and they are two different local authorities)?
So, if you’re going to be in the city on 4 July, make sure you register your student address so you can vote here. Please note you will only be able to vote once in the General Election, you cannot vote at both your term time and home polling stations.
Want to vote by post?
You can apply to vote in this year’s General Election by post, rather than in-person if you wish. This may be particularly helpful if you’re going to be away on 4 July, as you will need to return your ballot, by post, in advance of the election taking place.
The deadline to apply for a postal vote for the General Election is 5pm on Wednesday, 19 June. You must be registered to vote in the UK before you can apply.
Already signed up when you registered for university?
You may not need to worry about getting yourself on the electoral register if you applied during the student registration process at the start of the academic year. During this process we suggested you might want to add yourself to the electoral register, using your term-time address. If you did this, and your address is still the same, you do not need to go through the process again. If you’ve since moved, you will need to reapply.
Voter ID
Voters in England now need to show photo ID to vote at polling stations. This ID can include your driving licence, passport, official proof of age card or some travel passes. Check out the accepted forms of ID and don’t forget to take one of them along with you on 4 July.
