Today, we’re launching SafeZone, a free safety app for when you’re on campus.

How it works

Using geo-fencing on campus, when you open the app and request help, your location is automatically shared with Campus Support’s control room to ensure that the right assistance arrives quickly.

SafeZone is already used by half of UK universities, including Birmingham, Glasgow, Imperial College London, Manchester, Newcastle and Salford. It has more than 3 million subscribers worldwide.

How do I use SafeZone?

The app is intuitive and easy to use. The home screen features three large buttons: a red Emergency button for immediate assistance; a green First Aid button for when medical attention is required; and a blue Control Room button for non-urgent assistance or advice.

To make full use of all the SafeZone features, you should allow location services on your device and stay ‘checked in’ while on campus.

What about privacy?

Your location is only visible to the Campus Support control room when you are on University premises and checked into the app, or if you raise an alert.

More information on SafeZone functionality and how to use the app can be found at: https://safezoneapp.com
