Our library team are here to support your learning throughout your time at University and make sure that you get the most out of the resources and services available to you.

Whether it’s your first time on campus or your first time back for a while, they have put together a useful guide that sets out everything you need to know to get you started.

Things you need to do

In order to enter the Library, you will need your student ID card, so if you haven’t already, you’ll need to follow these instructions to receive your card.

You can also use the QR code in the Library section of the My Liverpool app as your ID to enter the libraries from the start of term.

Which Library should I use?

You can use either Library on campus to study and you will receive the same friendly support in both libraries. However, your books may be kept in one of our two campus libraries. Click here to find out more.

There is also a library at the Leahurst Campus that offers learning materials and study spaces primarily for students from the School of Veterinary Science.

The Library’s Special Collections and Archives can also be found in the Sydney Jones Library. Access is by appointment only so please book an appointment in advance. Please check the latest information about visiting and using Special Collections and Archives.

What are the opening times?

The Harold Cohen Library (HCL) is open 24/7 during the academic term.

The Sydney Jones Library (SJL) will be closed overnight up to the May 2025 assessment period due to extensive improvement works occurring across the building.

Always check: Library Opening Hours for current opening times.

Study spaces

You can book a study space before you visit the libraries, though this is not required. Students can access desk spaces and PC study spaces in both campus libraries throughout the year. If you don’t want to use a PC or bring your own laptop to the Library, you can borrow a laptop. If you do bring your own laptop or mobile device, wireless internet access is available inside the libraries.

How to use bookable study spaces:

You can choose a study space with or without a PC depending on your study needs and we have zoned areas of the Library dedicated to different noise levels.
