Opportunities for students this Autumn

We’re only a few weeks into semester one and we’ve already heard of student opportunities galore! So, we thought we’d do a quick round up for you to scan through, to see if any of them float your boat.

Industry insight panels

Organised by the University’s Careers and Employability team, industry insight panels are an invaluable way for students to delve into possible career options.

On Tuesday, 15 October we are hosting three panel events, each focusing on a different career sector, with speakers who will talk about their career paths and provide you with insight into opportunities open to you – plus lots of useful advice that will help you when thinking about your future career.

Sessions include:

  1. Unlock your Creativity: Careers in the Creative Sector
  2. Preserving the Past, Shaping the Future: Careers in Heritage & Culture
  3. Future Tech: Careers in Emerging Tech Sectors

Careers Fair

Hot on the heels of our industry talks is our biggest careers fair of the year!

The Livuni Careers Fair takes place on Wednesday, 16 October, from 10am-3.30pm in the Crypt Hall of the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.

Students from every degree and year of study are invited. Our employer partners are coming to Liverpool because they want to recruit students like you for their internships, YINI placements, and graduate jobs. This event offers the perfect opportunity for you to explore your career options and make new employer connections.

With so many people there it’s well worth preparing for the day by researching who will be there and what opportunities they have. All the details can be found on Handshake.

Guest lecture and Q&A with Barney Francis

The University is excited to invite you to attend a guest lecture and Q&A from alumnus Barney Francis on Friday 18 October 2024 at 1.30-2.30pm in the Management School at the University of Liverpool.

In his talk, Barney will share insights of his 30-year career in broadcasting and content. He spent over two decades at Sky as well as spells at BBC and ITV and now IMG.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear about his leadership journey in a changing and competitive industry, followed by the opportunity to network with peers in your University community.

Tate Liverpool Student Ambassadors

As part of our ongoing partnership with Tate Liverpool, each Autumn we select two students to help promote the benefits on offer to University of Liverpool students including:

Tate Liverpool welcomes applications from students on any course of study. As an Ambassador, you’ll be invited to upcoming shows, events and gain experience volunteering for a major art institution.

Student Change Ambassadors

Want to make a difference at the University? Want new skills that will look great on your CV? Then why not consider becoming a Student Change Champion!

Our Strategic Change team is looking to recruit a group of up to 15 current students to work with them on a range of projects exploring different aspects of our student experience – from teaching and learning to our support and advisory services.  

Becoming a Student Change Champion will give you the opportunity to learn new skills valued by employers, boost your self-confidence and gain invaluable experience of working alongside staff at the University. Plus, this paid role is designed to work around your University timetable.

Maker Space

A Maker Space is a collaborative workspace for making, learning, exploring and sharing.

Within this space you can experiment with a range of exciting new technologies; whether you want to create something for your university studies or simply enhance your digital skills. Available technologies include 3D printers, a Laser Cutter, Vinyl Cutter and Virtual Reality headsets.

The Maker Space is located on the ground floor of the Sydney Jones Library and is open 10am -3pm Monday to Thursday during term time. You can find out more about what is on offer and book a slot to use the technologies via our website. The library is running a launch event on Wednesday, 9 October from 1-3pm, so pop along and explore tasters of some of their technologies!
