How our library can help you with your studies

The University’s library is not only a top study spot for students but it provides a whole host of services to help you develop your independent study skills and make good progress on your course.

Whether it’s practical advice on your study technique, accessing resources you might not have considered or sparking new ideas by giving you the opportunity to experiment with the latest technologies, our library has an essential role to play in helping you reach your full potential!

KnowHow

Do you know about KnowHow?

KnowHow provides a full programme of academic support sessions throughout the year to help you succeed in your studies. You can also access online tutorials, which are available 24/7. Here’s just a flavour of the sessions they run but make sure to check out their full catalogue:

Specialist Subject Support

Heard about our designated Liaison Librarians for each subject? If you need support finding resources or referencing, you can contact your Librarian or book a one-to-one appointment for some expert advice.

Academic writing support

Writing@Liverpool is an initiative delivered by postgraduate tutors who have lots of experience in academic writing. Book a one-to-one appointment with a tutor for support with analysing questions, becoming more critical, structuring your writing or referencing.

Statistics support

If numbers are more your thing, Stats@Liverpool is a free service to help you boost your statistical skills. Book a one-to-one appointment with a friendly postgraduate statistics tutor for support in choosing statistical tests, using statistical packages and understanding statistical concepts.

Maker Space

The library’s Maker Space is a collaborative workspace for making, learning, exploring and sharing.

Within this space you can experiment with a range of exciting new technologies; whether you want to create something for your university studies or simply enhance your digital skills. Available technologies include 3D printers, a Laser Cutter, Vinyl Cutter and Virtual Reality headsets.

The Maker Space is located on the ground floor of the Sydney Jones Library and is open 10am -3pm Monday to Thursday during term time. You can find out more about what is on offer and book a slot to use the technologies via our website.

Our library is here to help you switch off too!

Reading your course material is important, but so is switching off and relaxing! Our free-to-access leisure reading collections are not directly related to your university studies. Download LIBBY to listen to audiobooks on-the-go. 

You also have free access to multiple streaming platforms through the library! Sign up to Kanopy to access thousands of films, from blockbusters to documentaries as well as a great selection of classic films and world cinema, stream critically acclaimed classic, cult and contemporary cinema hand-picked by the British Film Institute on BFI Player and log in to Box of Broadcasts to access TV, radio and film on demand
