This year’s Heseltine Institute Annual Lecture will feature two Northern Powerhouses: Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, Steve Rotheram and Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham.
On Monday 25 November at 5.30pm, the Heseltine Institute will host with two Mayors in conversation with BBC North West Tonight presenter Mairead Smyth.
In what promises to be an evening of insightful discussion, they will talk about their ambitious plan to rewire and reimagine our country beyond the Westminster bubble.
The Mayors will discuss their book ‘Head North: A Rallying Cry for a More Equal Britain,’ published earlier this year.
A former MP, Councillor and Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Steve is the first elected Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
Andy Burnham served as a Secretary of State for Health and for Culture, Media and Sport in the last Labour government under Prime Minister Gordon Brown. He was first elected Mayor of Greater Manchester in 2017.
Professor Catherine Durose, Co-Director of the Heseltine Institute said: “We’re delighted that Steve Rotheram and Andy Burnham will be joining us for our third Annual Heseltine Lecture. Their book offers a radical perspective on how to make politics work better for ordinary people, and it will be great to discuss this in the context of having a newly elected government.”
Sue Jarvis, Co-Director of the Heseltine Institute said: “At the Heseltine Institute a key research focus for us is devolution and the role of Mayors so we’re really looking forward to the discussion with Andy and Steve about local, regional and national challenges.”
The Heseltine Institute Annual Lecture will take place on Monday 25 November 5.30pm – 7.30pm in St George’s Hall Concert Room, L1 1JJ. There will be a Q&A session after the lecture followed by an informal drinks reception.
The event is free to attend, but registration is required. You can book your tickets here.
