After a fantastic start to its Autumn – Winter 2024 season of live music, The Tung Auditorium is forging ahead with its festive series of concerts for December.

Packed with a spectacular array of genres, exceptional live performers and festive favourites that are bound to get you in the Christmas spirit, the venue is excited to present December’s roster.

Richard Hartwell, Artistic Director of The Tung Auditorium, said: “We’re not doing a panto this year, but there’s still plenty of Christmas spirit on offer at the Tung this December, from traditional carols to festive jazz. Many of these concerts are now becoming an annual tradition in themselves!”

The brilliant University of Liverpool music societies return for another year with their highly popular annual Christmas concerts this season.

Kickstarting the student-led Christmas proceedings, Liverpool University Music Society will be playing a selection of their favourite pieces from this semester chosen by their members and ensemble leaders (Friday 13 December).

The Tung Auditorium is continuing with its Lunchtime Concert Series in December with a wintery concert from accomplished solo pianist and chamber musician Lauryna Sableviciute (Wednesday 4 December). The programme, Frozen Light, is a celebration of life, nature, light and music: transcending all boundaries. Wrapping up the Lunchtime Concert Series this year is University of Liverpool Choirs: Northern Lights (Wednesday 11 December), which is now sold out.

Whether you’re in the mood for cozy carols, seasonal swing or jingle bell jazz, The Tung Auditorium has got it all this Christmas.

Allerton Brass will “jingle all the way” with a fabulous, fun-filled concert for all the family. Accompanied by the children from Sudley Primary School Choir, they will be performing festive favourites on Friday 6 December. To round off a Christmassy weekend on Sunday 8 December, Dr Jazz and the Cheshire Cats wish you a “Happy Jazzmas” with a special performance of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn’s jazz version of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite.

Back by popular demand, Liverpool Welsh Choral are set to perform a Festive Fanfare on Saturday 14 December. Teaming up with Northop Silver Band for a spectacular Christmas special, the ensemble will be singing some of your favourite carols mixed in with some Welsh melodies.

If you fancy joining in, Choir with No Name are also back on Monday 9 December for another year for their Big Christmas Singalong, bringing their iconic Christmas joy and cheer to kick off your holidays in style.

Another returning highlight is the Danny Miller Big Band – a 17-piece jazz ensemble led by renowned multi-instrumentalist, arranger and composer, Danny Miller. Their festive performance on Sunday 15 December will include re-imagined timeless carols, beloved big band holiday favourites and contemporary Christmas hits.

If you’re all ‘Christmassed’ out, don’t fear as The Tung Auditorium is also showcasing artists with local roots this December, including the award-winning Robert Vincent. The Americana singer-songwriter will make his venue debut on Saturday 7 December to celebrate the release of his fourth album, ‘Barriers’ in a special homecoming show.

The Tung Auditorium is situated in the Yoko Ono Lennon Centre at the University of Liverpool on the corner of Grove Street and Oxford Street. You can buy tickets for the December shows on The Tung Auditorium website here.
