University paves way for enhanced collaboration with India

The imposing structure of Vidhana Soudha stands in the centre of Bangalore, housing the state's main government institutions.

A delegation from the University of Liverpool visited the State of Karnataka, India last week to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka Government.

The MoU was signed at the official residence of the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Minister for Large and Medium Industries, and underlines a commitment to fostering greater cooperation in education, skills and research.

The University of Liverpool’s Professor Tim Jones, Vice-Chancellor, and Professor Tariq Ali, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, were present at the signing ceremony alongside Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the Minister of Large and Medium Scale Industries MB Patil, and Minister of Higher Education, Dr MC Sudhakar.

The MoU aims to strengthen collaboration in research and innovation activities, education cooperation, and establish a joint working group to take the partnership forward.

The University of Liverpool already has excellent links to Karnataka, with existing collaborators including the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore and industry partners such as Unilever.

Professor Tariq Ali, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement and Partnerships at the University of Liverpool said: “Our visit to Karnataka allowed further exploration of the many opportunities for international collaboration with India, whose government has recently introduced new regulations to enable joint programmes and student mobility. Our meetings with national and state governments have paved the way for new and expanded activities in Karnataka and the wider country, which we are excited to take forward.”
