Simple steps to protect your property can make a huge difference to how vulnerable your home is to crime. Take a look at these tips from Merseyside Police to help you reduce the risk of being targeted by burglars:
- Close and lock all your doors and windows, even if you’re only going out briefly – opportunists only need a few minutes to strike🔐
- double-lock doors where possible🔑🔑
- make sure that any valuables, including laptops and phones, are out of sight of windows💻
- keep handbags away from your letterbox and hide all keys including car keys, as a thief could hook keys or valuables through even a small opening👜
- in the evening, shut the curtains and leave lights on🛋️
- if you’re out all day, then get a timer device to automatically turn lamps on at night💡
- set your burglar alarm if you have one🔔
- make sure the side gate is locked🚪
- keep you bike indoors, or lock it in a secure shed or garage using a ground or wall anchor ideally🚲
