New College of Veterinary Medicine opens in Sharjah, UAE

Students and UoL and Al Dhaid leadership at white coat ceremony

His Highness Sheik Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, attended the official opening of the College of Veterinary Medicine programme at the University of Al Dhaid on Monday (27 October 2025).

Chancellor Aisha Abu Shlaibi (University of Al Dhaid) and the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine Rabiha Seboussi also joined the opening celebration at the new state of the art facilities located at the University of Al Dhaid, based in Sharjah, one of the United Arab Emirates.

Together the University of Al Dhaid and the University of Liverpool are delivering a new Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, with its first student intake having commenced their studies in September this year.

University of Liverpool Vice-Chancellor Tim Jones, Professor Paul Lunn, Dean of the School of Veterinary Science and Josh Slater, Programme Director for the University of Liverpool -University of Al Dhaid Veterinary Programme, also attended the ceremony.

At the event, students received their white coats and took part in reciting a professional oath in Arabic and English. The Vice-Chancellor toured the new veterinary facilities and met with students.

The new College includes teaching spaces, anatomy and pathology laboratories in addition to teaching hospitals and facilities for all domestic and agricultural species. The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree is accredited by the UAE Commission for Academic Accreditation, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Professor Paul Lunn, Dean of the School of Veterinary Science, said: “Today was a big milestone for the new College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Al Dhaid, and it was a considerable honour to have His Highness Sheik Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi attend and perform the ceremonies. The progress made is a testament to the hard work of everyone involved, and the leadership of Dean Rabiha Seboussi. This is a unique opportunity for the University of Liverpool to be engaged in delivering a new program of enormous potential.”
