A call out to our University community: ‘Front of house’ helpers for December graduation

Winter graduation ceremonies are fast approaching and we’re looking forward to helping our students celebrate their achievements with their family and friends.

To ensure the ceremonies run smoothly, and students and visitors have the best day possible, we rely on the support of colleagues from across the institution to come along and help during graduation.

This year, our winter graduations will take place on Tuesday, 9 December and Wednesday, 10 December at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

Many of our teaching staff join us to process at graduation ceremonies, but we are also looking for staff, from any area of the University, to help out on the ceremony days in ‘front of house’ roles including welcoming families, answering queries (you will be fully briefed beforehand) and co-ordinating the processions as they enter and leave the hall. You will only ever be asked to do a role which you’re comfortable with.

It is a unique celebration on campus and it simply wouldn’t be possible to deliver everything we do for our students without your support.

So, please spare a few hours if you can and in return you get to spend time with a great bunch of colleagues, wear a fetching gown and enjoy the magic that is a Liverpool Graduation.

Express an interest in helping at graduation

If you’d like to help at our December graduations please speak to your line manager first and then email Sian in our Events team at swinston@liverpool.ac.uk and include in your message:

  • Which day(s) you are available on Tuesday, 9 and Wednesday, 10 December
  • Which ceremonies you can support – there are three ceremonies on each day, taking place at 10am, 1pm and 4pm and volunteers are needed to be on site at least 90 minutes in advance (8.30am, 11.30am, 2.30pm) – ideally we would ask for your help at two consecutive ceremonies a day (10am and 1pm or 1pm and 4pm) as we appreciate that staying for all three ceremonies will result in a long day for you. If you are able to help for a full day and would like to do so, please let us know
