Technologies in Palliative Care for Older People
Authors: Amara Callistus Nwosu, Sarah Stanley, James Norris, Mark Taubert
Published: 2025
This book provides a comprehensive overview of palliative care digital health by covering current developments, methodology, clinical relevance, research priorities, ethical issues, and policy related to technological innovations for those with serious illness. This type of book does not currently exist in the literature, as previous work primarily focuses on digital health for early identification of disease and facilitating self-care or ‘aging in place’ practices. This book addresses the lack of focus on digital health for people with palliative care needs. This book has a special focus on the needs of individuals as their health worsens throughout their illness. Consequently, the reader will benefit from this book’s focus on the science, methodology, application, and practicality of digital health developments in palliative care.
This book explores the barriers that prevent the meaningful use of digital health in palliative care, including expenses, interoperability issues, data privacy and security concerns, lack of effectiveness and equity, and the concern that technology may reduce face-to-face consultations between patients and clinicians. There is an overall lack of consensus about digital health research priorities in palliative care, and a lack of theories about how these technologies might improve care outcomes. Therefore, this book emphasizes the importance of identifying, discussing, and debating how technological innovations can be meaningfully used to ensure that frail people have appropriate access to palliative care services. Consequently, this book begins the conversation about articulating digital health research priorities in palliative care to determine how finite resources should be allocated to a field saturated with rapidly developing innovation.
Amara Callistus Nwosu is a palliative care consultant in the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Liverpool.

Artist Management in the Music Industries – A Sui Generis Form of Management
Author: Yiyi Wang
Published: 2025
Artist Management in the Music Industries: A Sui Generis Form of Management provides one of the first substantive, academic examinations of the role of an artist manager.
This book deconstructs the nature of Artist Management, unveiling the pivotal role of the artist manager in creating and sustaining a dynamic environment referred to as the ‘Loop’, where success is realised by navigating four variables – Risks, Relationships, Emotions, and Expectations (2Rs and 2Es) – within and beyond the ‘Loop’. This book offers a new perspective on Artist Management as a sui generis discipline that does not fit easily inside standard conceptions of management.
Featuring ethnography and interviews, this book sheds light on the real-world challenges and successes in the field. It is a must-read for researchers, students, and practitioners in the music business, music marketing, and artist management, offering invaluable insights into the practices that shape the cultural landscape.
Yiyi Wang has a PhD in Music from the University of Liverpool and is currently Alumni Engagement Officer (International).

Indie TV – Industry, Aesthetics and Medium Specificity
Authors: James Lyons, Yannis Tzioumakis
Published: 2023
This edited collection is the first book to offer a wide-ranging examination of the interface between American independent film and a converged television landscape that consists of terrestrial broadcasters, cable networks and streaming providers, in which independent film and television intersect in complex, multifaceted and creative ways.
The book covers the long history of continuities and connections between the two sectors, as seen in the activities of PBS, HBO or Sundance. It considers the movement of filmmakers between indie film and TV such as Steven Soderbergh, Rian Johnson, the Duplass brothers, Joe Swanberg, Lynn Shelton and Gregg Araki; details the confluence of aesthetic and thematic elements seen in shows such as Girls, Breaking Bad, Master of None, or Glow; points to a shared interest in regional sensibilities evident in shows like One Mississippi or Fargo; and makes the case for documentaries and web series as significant entities in this domain. Collectively, the book builds a compelling picture of indie TV as a significant feature of US screen entertainment in the 21st Century.
This interdisciplinary landmark volume will be a go-to reference for students and scholars of Television Studies, Film Studies and Media Studies.
Yannis Tzioumakis is Professor and Reader in Film and Media Industries
Communication and Media, School of the Arts, in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
