Give your feedback on the University’s assessment support

Last semester, we launched the new Additional Considerations Policy, which aims to support you during assessments.

We know assessment period can be tough, and things don’t always go to plan. That’s why we’ve rolled out a new extension period for eligible assessments, and an easier way to submit Personal Extenuating Circumstances claims.

If you’ve used either of these – or even if you haven’t yet – we’d like to hear how you think the policy is working.

We really value your opinion and your feedback will help shape improvements to the support we offer in the future.

Have Your Say

You’ve got until 23 February to have your say in the Additional Considerations survey.

The policy is all about making sure you can access the support you need when things aren’t going to plan – whether that’s a short-term issue making you worry about meeting a submission deadline, or something more serious that could impact your ability to complete an assessment and sit your examinations.

If you are anxious about being able to submit your coursework on time, you can stop worrying and instead use the new 7-calendar-day extension period to give yourself a few more days to complete and submit your assessments. This extension period increases to 14-calendar-days for disabled students with relevant reasonable adjustments in their support plans.

This extra time is there to help you manage your deadlines with no impact on your academic performance – you need don’t to request an extension, and there’s no penalty for using it.

Remember, when planning your work, always aim to submit your assessment by the original submission deadline set by your academic team, and double check each assessment has an extension period as some are exempt or are not eligible, as this helps you manage your workload effectively and avoid assessments bunching later in the semester.

If you’re dealing with something more serious that could affect your ability to complete an assessment or attend an exam, you can submit a Personal Extenuating Circumstances (PEC) claim for additional support. Eligible circumstances include illness or injury, a family bereavement or other unexpected emergencies.
