The People & Planet University League is an award-winning environmental ranking of all the UK’s universities. Each year UK institutions are ranked by their environmental and ethical performance. This year, 154 UK universities were assessed with Liverpool ranking 47th in the UK, 10th amongst Russell Group universities and 5th in the North West region.
The University scored 100% in Education for Sustainable Development, and Auditing and Environmental Management System, and also achieved high scores in a number of other categories, including 95% for Engagement and 84% for Ethical Investment.
Nicola Davies, Chief Financial Officer and Chair of the Sustainability Board said “I am delighted that we have achieved 10th in the Russell Group in these rankings. This is a strong result to build on, and with our new team in place we are in a great position to make significant progress in our sustainability goals over the next 12 months”.
Building on our Success
The results of the People & Planet University league are based on the time period between July and August 2022. The University has made significant progress since then which can help boost scores next year, including the recent launch of the Climate Plan, the recruitment of six new dedicated sustainability staff including a Circular Economy Manager and Waste and Recycling Officer and an updated Environmental Policy. The results will be used to identify further areas for improvement.
