Sir Robin Saxby, founding CEO and former chairman of ARM, has been inducted into the City of London Engineering Hall of Fame.

Launched in 2020, the City of London Hall of Fame’s judging panel gathers each year to select outstanding engineers who have benefitted the City of London. This year, seven engineers were selected, including Sir Robin Saxby. The ceremony welcoming the engineers into the Hall of Fame took place on Thursday, 31 October 2024.

Sir Robin’s career

Sir Robin Saxby is a tech entrepreneur who led Arm from its formation in 1991 as a spin-off of Acorn Computers with 12 members of staff, to a FTSE-100 company, which designs microchips found in 90% of the world’s mobile devices.

Sir Robin was knighted in the 2002 New Years Honours List, is a visiting Professor at the University of Liverpool, a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and an honorary fellow of the Royal Society.

Sir Robin stepped down as Arm’s CEO in 2001 and chairman in 2006.

Sir Robin’s time at the University

Sir Robin began his studies at the University of Liverpool in 1965, studying Electronics. He was one of the first students to live in Roscoe Hall and became President of the Roscoe Hall Committee. Sir Robin graduated in 1968 and gained his Doctor of Engineering in 2000.

Once citing Liverpool as his “foundation for life”, we’re delighted Sir Robin continued his lifelong relationship with the University acting as a founding donor to our Management School in 2002 and a former member of the University’s fundraising volunteer board.
