Or do you want to learn more about self-leadership when working independently? LEAP: The PGR Leadership programme at The University of Liverpool is now open for applications for the 2025/26 cohort.
The Academy is delighted to present a unique opportunity for PGRs to develop your leadership skills in this practical, reflective and evidence-based programme.
What is LEAP: The PGR Leadership programme?
LEAP is our flagship programme in leadership development for PGRs, providing you as doctoral candidates with the opportunity to develop leadership skills at an early stage of your career. LEAP is essentially the first phase of understanding what research leadership is and why it matters.
Why should you take part in LEAP?
Open to all stages (early, middle and late) LEAP will provide you with the necessary skills required to work collaboratively and lead networks and teams. The programme also focuses on self-leadership for those working independently. In today’s ever increasingly competitive funding/job markets being able to demonstrate key skills in leadership can not only enhance your CV but also show your commitment to continued professional development.
This three-stage programme will provide you with tools, ideas and practical strategies to help you lead authentically in each of the following areas:
- Shaping the purpose of your field and leading intellectual decisions
- Directing projects that deliver impactful and meaningful results
- Guiding and developing people to reach their potential

Nominate researchers for Celebrating Researchers 2025
Postgraduate research students (PGRs) are invited to nominate their favourite research staff for Celebrating Researchers 2025, an annual event where the whole University community can show their appreciation for the hard work of research staff (postdocs, research fellows, research assistants and research technicians). Is there a postdoc who has had an impact on you and/or your research during your doctoral studies? Is there a researcher who encourages your ambitions? Do you work with a technician whose support is essential? Is there a research fellow who inspires you by creating a positive environment for everyone around them? Now is your chance to recognise their achievements and help them to understand how much you value their efforts.
Nominations close on Friday, 3 October. For further information, including how to submit a nomination, see the Celebrating Researchers 2025 page: https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/researcher/celebrating-success/2025/
