As we’re nearly half-way through Semester 1, chances are you’re starting to think about where they’ll live next year.
It can be tempting to secure accommodation early to avoid missing out — but take your time! Rushing into a decision can lead to problems later, so it’s worth thinking things through carefully.
Remember, tenancy agreements are legally binding, and once you’ve signed, it can be very difficult to cancel if your plans change.
Top tips for choosing the right student accommodation
1. Don’t feel pressured and take your time
Take time to decide where and who you’d like to live. Some landlords or halls might push you to sign quickly, but don’t rush. Explore your options — a better deal could be just around the corner. Liverpool Student Homes will be releasing their accredited homes on their website on Monday 1 December so there’s plenty of time before you need to start looking.
2. View several properties.
Seeing a range of places will help you understand what’s available and how prices, facilities, and conditions compare.
3. Double-check rent and bills.
Know exactly what’s included in the price, how long the tenancy lasts, and how it stacks up against similar properties.
4. Read before you sign.
Your tenancy agreement is a legal contract between you and your landlord or accommodation provider. Once you’ve signed, it’s not easy to back out. Make sure you understand all the terms — and if you’re unsure, get advice from Liverpool Student Homes (LSH) before committing.
