Liverpool continues to rise in QS Subject Rankings 2026

The University of Liverpool continues to strengthen its position as a leading global institution with multiple subjects rising in the latest QS subject rankings.

12 subjects are ranked in the world’s top 100, with Anatomy & Physiology and Veterinary Science placed in the top 50.

In addition, Biosciences and Chemistry have entered the top 100 QS subject rankings for the first time.

Published annually, the QS subject rankings assess more than 6,000 institutions worldwide based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact. This year, 1,900 institutions were ranked across 55 narrow subjects and five broad subject areas, generating over 21,000 entries.

The 12 subjects taking top 100 positions are:

  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Archaeology
  • Biological Sciences
  • Chemistry
  • Classics & Ancient History
  • English Language & Literature
  • Library & Information Management
  • Marketing
  • Medicine
  • Petroleum Engineering
  • Pharmacy & Pharmacology
  • Veterinary Science

Overall, 19 subjects improved their position compared with last year including Accounting, Architecture, and Electrical & Electronic Engineering.

Computer Science and Information Technology saw the most significant rise, climbing 65 places to 158 globally. Other notable gains were recorded in Law, Sociology, Earth & Marine Sciences, Physics, Business and Management Studies, and Marketing.

Professor Tim Jones, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Liverpool, said: “This latest ranking continues our strong performance in global rankings. Having 12 subjects in the world’s top 100—and several more climbing strongly—reflects the dedication of our academic community.

“These results highlight the impact of our research and teaching and demonstrate Liverpool’s position as one of the best universities in the world. I would like to thank everyone involved in contributing to these results, which further strengthen Liverpool’s global standing.”
