On Monday, 19 October, at 5.30pm, the University will be presenting a community screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing in the Brett Building, one of over 3,500 screenings planned to be held at universities nationwide.
Sustainability is a priority for the University, important to every aspect of our work.
After this summer’s extreme weather and warnings of vegetable shortages this coming winter, you may be wondering what is happening to our climate, and its effect on nature and our everyday life in the UK.
The People’s Emergency Briefing is an eye-opening 50-minute film featuring 9 leading UK scientists and experts presenting the latest information on how our weather, food security, health and cost of living are being affected.
The screening is being presented by the Centre for Sustainable Business in collaboration with the Centre for Joined-Up Sustainability Transformations (JUST) and the University’s Sustainability team.
The Centre for Sustainable Business is a hub of actionable research insights, which supports practitioners and policymakers in finding solutions to the climate emergency and social justice issues. As the sustainability challenge intensifies, organisations from all sectors and sizes face increasing pressure to ‘do something’.
JUST focuses on the pursuit of sustainability transformations that are people-centred, joined-up and socially just. Across 5 regions of the North of England, including Merseyside, it explores existing initiatives adopted by communities, municipalities, and businesses to pursue low-carbon living. The insights from its research, is contributing to the development of a JUST toolkit, comprising a range of tools for communities, business, and policymakers across the UK to better understand the challenges in accelerating sustainability transformations wherever they are based.
This event reflects the ambitions of the University’s Sustainability Strategy, which sets out our commitment to driving environmental and social equity through our research, education and operations. Working collaboratively within the University and with partners locally, nationally and internationally is an important part of delivering these ambitions and creating positive change within and beyond our boundaries.
Following the film, there will be an open discussion about how the issues presented affect our community and what we can do to help.
Attendance at the event is free but places are strictly limited and interest is high, so book now to avoid disappointment. Light refreshments, comprising hot and cold drinks, fruit and biscuits will be provided.
