Ambassador Susman accepts a Liver Bird gift from Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Howard Newby

The US Ambassador, Louis Susman, met staff and students on a visit to the University.

Ambassador Susman met Embassy-sponsored exchange programme participants including students on the Fulbright and Marshall scholarship schemes.

The scholarships enable US citizens to study at postgraduate level at UK universities and aim to promote leadership, learning and empathy between nations through educational exchange.

The round-table discussion focused on the importance of higher education and exchanges between the US and UK as well as US economic, social and foreign policies. The Ambassador also spoke of the ‘essential relationship’ between the UK and US and the potential impact of unfolding events in the EU on the world economy.

The Vice-Chancellor and Director of Partnerships and Innovation, John Flamson, also joined Ambassador Susman for a meeting with Liverpool business leaders, at which the Ambassador encouraged the city to ensure its considerable assets are given high profile in the UK and further afield.
