A new college has been launched to help young people pursue their footballing skills whilst working towards academic qualifications.
The brainchild of Liverpool Academy coaches David Rowe and David MacDiarmid, the Liverpool Football Club Foundation Football College (LFC Football College) will see young people aged 16 to 19 with a passion for football achieve GCSE, A-Level and FA coaching certificates.
Based at Wyncote – the University’s Sports Ground in Mossley Hill, the college is a unique partnership between the Liverpool FC Foundation and SALT (Sport Art Learning and Training).
Liverpool Academy Coach, David Rowe, said: “The main focus of the college is to help the students gain academic qualifications and improve their life opportunities. We are delighted to be working with the University of Liverpool – the facilities at Wyncote are superb.”
LFC players Suso and Dani Pacheco attended the launch and led a coaching session with students who are part of the innovative full-time programme.
Pete Sampara, Sports Operations Manager at the University, added: “What the LFC Foundation is trying to achieve ticks all the boxes for us. It provides young people with an opportunity and gives them direction and something to aspire to.”
