More than 50 young researchers from across the globe came together to the Monte Verití Conference Centre in Ascona, Switzerland, for the inaugural Perspectives on Actuarial Risks in Talks of Young Researchers (PARTY) conference.
Jointly organised by Corina Constantinescu from the University of Liverpool and Severine Gaille from the University of Lausanne, the conference gave young PhD students the opportunity to discuss longevity risks and risk theory with some of the world’s leading academics and experts from actuarial practice.
Commenting on the event, Corina Constantinescu from the University’s Department of Mathematics, said: “With presentations on subjects ranging from mortality models, longevity risk and catastrophe risk to optimal dividends, ruin and bankruptcy probabilities, the mix-and-match programme exposed delegates to topics related to their own field as well as introducing them to other aspects of actuarial risks and ways to address them.”
Best paper
Liverpool student, Weihong Ni, received the Best Paper Award from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, for her paper on “Weibull Bonus Malus systems”.
The conference was sponsored by the Centro Stefano Franscini of ETH, the UK Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, the Swiss Actuarial Association, HEC Lausanne and the University of Liverpool. It was endorsed by the Bernoulli Society for Mathematical Statistics and Probability.
A second conference is planned to take place in Edinburgh in 2015.
