The University’s Chancellor, Professor Sir David King, has been appointed Special Adviser on Climate Change to the Foreign Secretary. This reduces the amount of time that Sir David is able to commit to the role of Chancellor and he has therefore, with reluctance, tendered his resignation to the University.
The University Council has agreed that a Committee to Nominate a Chancellor should be convened whose task it is to seek and consider nominations and determine a name to be put forward to the Council. The Committee will be chaired by the Pro-Chancellor, Professor James Keaton, and will comprise representatives of the Council and the Senate.
University staff are invited to submit nominations for the Chancellorship.
Criteria
When considering suggestions, the following criteria should be borne in mind:
“¢ The Chancellor should be a person of distinction and known to the public – outstanding academic achievement or excellence in some other field would be a high recommendation.
“¢ He or she should represent those human and cultural values for which the University stands.
“¢ He or she should be in a position to be of benefit to the University in its public face.
“¢ No active politician should be appointed.
Nominations should be emailed to Emma Leonard , Committee Services Administrator, by Friday 6 December 2013 and should include a brief description of why you believe the nominee would make a suitable Chancellor. Staff can also contact Emma if any further information is required.
