The Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, has called for the city of Liverpool to unite and observe a one-minute silence at 3.06pm today – the exact time at which the fateful FA Cup semi-final match between Liverpool FC and Nottingham Forest was stopped on 15th April 1989 – in remembrance of the 96 people who lost their lives in the tragedy.
As a mark of respect, bells from churches across the city region, including Liverpool Cathedral, Liverpool Parish Church (Our Lady and St Nicholas) and as far afield as Holy Trinity Church, Southport, will ring 96 times, to commemorate each life lost in the disaster.
The University fully supports colleagues who wish to observe this act of remembrance.
