More than 550 international students from the University of Liverpool’s English Language Centre (ELC) attended its annual end of year ceremony at the Metropolitan Cathedral.
The students who studied the pre-sessional English courses displayed posters which they had prepared as part of their course work. The posters related to a topic directly relevant to the students’ intended academic programme of study and demonstrated their level of English.
The ELC offers courses which are specifically designed for international students who want to improve their English language skills before studying for an undergraduate or postgraduate programme at the University of Liverpool.
Director of the ELC, Clive Newton, said: “This event was a celebration of the fantastic achievements of all the students who have attended our pre-sessional English courses. Some of the students have come from all over the world including Brazil, Iraq and China have been studying with us for 40, 30 or 19 weeks, with others studying our ten and six week courses.”
“The posters they presented were well-designed and demonstrate the high-level of understanding and knowledge which they have attained through their studies here at Liverpool.”
Guest judges from the University academic staff judged the posters and the winners were announced by Executive Pro Vice-Chancellor for Humanities and Social Sciences, Professor Fiona Beveridge, and by Liz Crolley from the Management School.
As well as providing English language courses for those who wish to embark on undergraduate or postgraduate programmes, the ELC offers a range of other courses and services including innovative English language support classes for international students and staff already studying at the University.
The English Language Centre is now preparing to welcome its next new intake of international students on 6 October 2014.
