The University of Liverpool is the first swimming lessons provider in Merseyside and first University nationally to receive the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) Learn to Swim Accreditation.
The Accreditation is the ASA’s ‘quality mark’, designed for swimming providers who continuously review and develop their programme. With more than 15 different swimming classes weekly catering for both adults and children, Sport Liverpool Swim School has doubled its participation figures within the last two years.
Ryan Swinney, Sports Development Officer, said: “The development work that has been put into the programme as part of the accreditation and as part of the Sport Liverpool Aquatic Development Plan has undoubtedly paid off. The process has been long but we are extremely proud of our achievements.”
For all ages
Katie Lynch, who coordinates the Aquatics programme, said: “We not only provide a ‘learn to swim’ framework for our children, we also provide development opportunities for anyone who wants get involved in Aquatics.
The University Sports and Fitness Centre, where we operate from, is the perfect place to learn, improve and develop your swimming ability and knowledge”.
Opportunity to learn
Sport Liverpool Swim School’s key objectives for the next few years will be working with the ASA on their participation strategy, which aims to give every child the opportunity to learn to swim by the time they leave primary school.
The University will be hosting the Merseyside Swimming Teachers Conference for the second year running on the 17th December. Any swimming teachers who would like to attend to increase their CPD should go to the Institute of Swimming website to book.
