Liverpool Literary Festival presents: Colm Tóibín

In collaboration with Liverpool Literary Festival 2018, University of Liverpool Chancellor and award-winning author Colm Tóibín returns to the city to deliver a one-off lecture where he will be reading from his new novel, House of Names.
Science and Society Lecture Series 2017: What have we learnt from Dolly the sheep (and Debbie, Denise and Diane)?

Since Dolly first made headlines in 1996, what have the last two decades taught us about genetic cloning? In the latest Science and Society lecture, Professor Kevin Sinclair from the University of Nottingham shares his knowledge of metabolic programming looking at what we have learnt since the first mammal was successfully cloned.
Postgrads Against Slavery: Ideas to Impact

This interdisciplinary workshop will explore and reflect on the research of the next generation of antislavery scholars and the contribution that we can make to contemporary efforts to end enslavement worldwide.

Gardeners’ Question Time (GQT) Anniversary Garden Party – featuring an array of current presenters including Bob Flowerdew, Bunny Guinness, Anne Swithinbank, James Wong, Matthew Biggs, Pippa Greenwood, Roy Lancaster, and Gardeners’ Question Time chairmen Eric Robson and Peter Gibbs. Includes two recordings of the BBC’s flagship gardening radio programme, a chance to meet the GQT team face-to-face, watch demonstrations and take part in a whole range of activities across the garden.

This free lunchtime concert, part of the Royal Musical Association 53rd Annual Conference will see musicians Thelma Handy, Ian Buckle and Ben Hackbarth performing pieces by Franz Schubert, Mario Davidovsky, Ben Hackbarth and Beat Furrer.
Miriam Allott Series: George Monbiot – Out of the Wreckage: A New Politics for an Age of Crisis

Join us for an evening with British writer and journalist George Monbiot in a discussion about his latest book, Out of the Wreckage: A New Politics for an Age of Crisis. George will discuss how new findings in psychology, neuroscience and evolutionary biology cast human nature in a radically different light and offer insight into how we can build on these findings to create a new ‘politics of belonging’, arguing that with a new positive vision, democracy and economic life can be radically reorganised from the bottom up. In collaboration with Bluecoat.
Liverpool Literary Festival presents: Philip Pullman – in conversation

Award winning novelist and creator of the His Dark Materials trilogy, Philip Pullman is heading to Liverpool to deliver a one off lecture, as part of the Liverpool Literary Festival presents series. Philip will be in conversation with Professor Dinah Birch, talking about his novel La Belle Sauvage: The Book of Dust Volume One.
Lucrezia Zaina Lecture 2017 with Professor John Foot: Rotten tomatoes and returning heroes – Italian football and national identity.

After the 1966 World Cup, the Italian team were greeted with rotten tomatoes at the airport. In 1982, they returned with the trophy itself, in triumph. This lecture looks at how the national identity and the national football team are linked and at reactions to sporting victory and disaster.
