The University of Liverpool’s Media Relations team has invested in a system that allows University experts to broadcast live from campus to screens across the UK and the world.
Housed in a dedicated Broadcast Room on the Lower Ground floor of recently refurbished 1 – 7 Abercromby Square, the Globelynx system plugs straight into all the major broadcasters so interviews can be conducted without needing to leave campus.
There is an onsite easy-to-use, ‘TV Ready’ camera system and connection to the Globelynx IP-based fibre network, delivering broadcast quality HD video – all configured to minimize the chances of technical issues.
The Globelynx network is directly connected to the BBC, ITV, CNBC, Bloomberg and Sky News in London, and all other major global broadcasters via key fibre hubs and satellites.
Alongside the hardware, Globelynx – owned by the Press Association – sends daily news alerts and carries a fully searchable database of our experts, helping to arrange interviews and showcasing our expertise to broadcasters across the world.
If there is a news item a Liverpool academic could contribute to, the Media Relations team will contact the relevant expert to see if they are willing to participate, ask for a quote and check availability.
Globelynx then put out an alert to all the major international broadcasters, to make them aware expertise is being offered and encourage them to use our contributors. Broadcasters then contact the Media Relations team directly to book an interview.
When an interview is booked through the system, the team let the relevant academic know and will be in the room to assist.
The system can also be used to carry out interviews with media not organised via Globelynx.
Globelynx’s team of former senior journalists will push our research out to broadcasters, on the University’s behalf, and the system can also be used to fulfil requests that come in directly from media organisations, whether to the Media Relations team or the academic themselves.
So, if someone from the BBC, for example, gets in touch, the interview can be carried out from our Broadcast Room rather than going to Radio Merseyside, Media City in Salford or London.
If you are an academic that regularly engages with the media, please let your contacts know the University of Liverpool can offer this system to fulfill broadcast requests.
