The University of Liverpool’s Russell Group topping Careers and Employability Service increased interactions with students by 40% in the last academic year.
The team opened the doors to the new Career Studio in September 2018 and since then footfall has increased significantly.
The University is already at the top of the Russell Group for graduate employment prospects, with 96.9% of UK first degree graduates going on to employment or further study within six months of completing their course – higher even than Oxford and Cambridge.
And it’s no surprise, with Liverpool among the top 25 UK universities most targeted by graduate employers, according to High Fliers Research 2019.
The new Career Studio has played a major part in this success.
A dedicated space for careers exploration delivered by a team of Student Career Coaches – managed by expert staff from the Careers and Employability team – the Career Studio is split into three zones; encouraging students to explore, connect and apply.
These three central themes aim to take the student on a journey, allowing them the time and space to discover the latest placement, internship and graduate opportunities, work on job applications with career coaches and meet with leading employers.
Nachi, a BSc Computing student, said: “I have used the Career Studio to get my CV checked, to look and apply for jobs, and to book a room for a telephone interview.
“I would recommend students to make use of the support available while at university, because the team can provide advice in getting into a career you might be considering, and they have had lots of experience helping students into great internships, placements and graduate jobs.”
Students are empowered to start their employability journey, with peer-to-peer support; a comprehensive programme of careers related seminars, workshops, fair and recruitment events and access to job openings; as well as opportunities to meet organisations seeking to recruit Liverpool students – and much more besides.
Each year, around 300 employers visit the Liverpool campus to recruit students.
A spokesperson for multinational, Deloitte said: “The University of Liverpool offers a diverse range of subjects coupled with extensive extracurricular activities that produces a large pool of talented individuals with a broad range of skills.
“As an employer with 1,200 graduate and undergraduate opportunities we relish the opportunity to target these quality students who we hope will add to the eminence of our organisation.”
Students are also encouraged to sign up for My Liverpool – an online portal offering a wide range of extracurricular and volunteering opportunities, and Career Hub – to book events and view the latest work placements, internships, part-time and graduate jobs.
