Secretary of State for Education visits University

Gavin Williamson MP, the Secretary of State for Education, visited the University on Friday, 12 October 2019 as part of a wider visit to the North West region.

During his visit to campus, the Secretary of State discussed the University’s specialist Maths School for 16 – 19 year olds which received approval from the Department of Education last year.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Janet Beer, and EPVC for the Faculty of Humanties and Social Sciences, Professor Fiona Beveridge, were able to update him on the latest developments for the new Maths School which will open its doors in September 2020 as a centre of excellence for mathematics education in the Liverpool City Region.

Professor Callum Youngson, Dean for the Institute of Clinical Sciences, also spent time with the Secretary of State to discuss the University’s medical education developments.

The Secretary of State was also given a tour of the University’s new Teaching Hub which is considered an exemplar within the sector for contemporary teaching space.
