A rich and diverse range of external experts and internal specialists continue to offer a range of insightful sessions for researchers, academics and research-related professional services staff at all stages of their career during Making an Impact 2020.
Following the success of yesterday’s talk by the Vice Chancellor, later today (Wednesday 3rd June 2:30-3:30pm) a keynote from Dr Beth Thompson MBE Head of Policy and Advocacy at Wellcome, will reflect on Beth’s own journey from researcher to research advocate. As lead of Wellcome’s research culture programme Beth will talk about what research culture means to her and what Wellcome is doing to make it better. Register here. Wednesday 3rd June 13:00-14:00 Knowledge Transfer Partnerships: partnerships that create real impact
Knowledge transfer is key to unlocking innovation and Knowledge Transfer Partnerships opens the door to strategic change, new opportunities for parties involved and capabilities for a business. During this session you will meet experienced academics supervisors on a good number of KTP projects and have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
Fostering research impact through a positive and inclusive research culture Friday 5th June 13:00-13:30 and 13:30-14:00 Café Culture.
An opportunity to talk about the challenges you face in research culture, what a better culture would look like, and propose solutions. These two sessions will be run by the University’s Research staff Association

Friday 5th June 10:00-11:00 Exploring and sharing research through poetry
This session is open to those with an interest in any disciple and will cover topics including: Poetry as a method of research communication, The history of research and poetry, Overcoming poetry’s intimidation factor. How to get started and where to share poems
For those looking to boost their academic research impact and knowledge exchange potential
Tuesday 9th June 09:30- 11:30 Boosting the impact of your publications.
Building your own publication and communication strategy can enhance the impact of your research and raise your profile. This session will encourage participants to develop a strategy that works for them and will cover the publishing process, copyright and self archiving, metrics, online tools and profiles.
Develop the reach of your research activity, interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration
Tuesday 9th June 14:00-16:00 Attracting your own funding.
Learn how to demonstrate that you can propose innovative projects that attract research funding. Understand what steps are involved when applying for a fellowship, time frames and how to apply as well as plan out a project and application strategy.
