The University of Liverpool is launching a new online event series this week looking at how the city has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Liverpool Responds: Research, Action! takes place on Wednesday and will see some of Liverpool’s top healthcare researchers discuss the work they and colleagues are doing to address the crisis.
Chaired by University of Liverpool Vice Chancellor, Dame Professor Janet Beer, the inaugural event will feature insight from the director of the Liverpool STOP COVID initiative and Executive Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Health and Life Sciences, Professor Louise Kenny; outbreak specialist and member of the Government’s Science Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE), Professor Calum Semple; and his fellow regular media commentator and global infectious diseases expert, Professor Tom Solomon.
It is the first of a series of live online events launched by the University under the Liverpool Responds banner, with discussions around the return of football; the challenges facing the hospitality industry; how we can support small and medium sized businesses and how the covid-19 lockdown has affected the environment, to come.
Professor Dame Janet Beer said: “So many areas of the University’s research have been pivoted quickly to understanding and acting on the challenges presented by the current pandemic and that is a source of huge pride for all of us in the institution.
“We have an excellent inaugural Liverpool Responds event lined up focusing, in particular, on elements of our health research and over the course of the coming weeks we will be offering people an insight into other areas of our COVID-19 related activity.”
Liverpool Responds will be streamed live via Zoom and Facebook.
