Folk concert commemorates Napoleonic Wars A large audience enjoyed an historical performance commemorating the Peninsular War of 1808-1814. Strawhead, a leading folk band, and Temple Fire, a student folk ensemble, gave the concert with the support of the School of History. The group are currently producing a CD of songs and ballads relating to the British army of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. Professor Charles Esdaile from the School said: “Such pieces of music offer a wealth of information on soldiers and soldiering in the early 19th century and is a fitting memorial to the 40,000 British troops who perished.” The CD will also feature contributions from the band The Rifles and is available from www.strawhead.org.uk in the autumn.
