The Duncan Norman Charitable Trust has recently held its annual meeting of the Trustees.

Personal qualities

The scholarship aims to enable academically gifted students who also have the personal qualities to make them leaders in society, to pursue MPhil/PhD study at the University of Liverpool, across all disciplines.

The award takes place on the 10 year anniversary of the highly prestigious scholarships scheme, which was established by a generous £1 million donation from the Duncan Norman Charitable Trust. The gift was given in memory of the late Duncan Norman, whose descendants are now among the Trustees.

During his lifetime, Mr Norman was Chairman of the Liverpool-based Owen Owen and TJ Hughes department stores and had a great affinity with the University, including terms as President of Council and Senior Pro-Chancellor. He was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Laws by the University in 1964 and his portrait now hangs in the Foundation Building.
