Design team confirmed for Student Village

The design team has been confirmed for the University’s planned £58m ‘Student Village’ on the Greenbank student residences site in Mossley Hill. The work is expected to start in September 2014.

The redevelopment project will deliver circa 1,300 new bedrooms, the majority with ensuite facilities, and will involve a mixture of demolition, refurbishment and new-build, including the creation of a £4 million sports facility.

Continuous use of the site

Sheppard Robson has been appointed as architect/lead designer for the work which will be phased over three to four years to enable continuous use of the site, including the operation of the restaurant facilities.

Sheppard Robson has a strong track record with the University, designing the £19m Engineering building on Brownlow Hill, completed in 2009, the £21m Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine in 2007, and our Small Animal Teaching Hospital at Leahurst on the Wirral, which was also completed in 2007.

Facilities and Residential Services team

The design team is now developing the brief with our Facilities and Residential Services teams prior to the submission of planning applications.

A heritage assessment has already been completed and agreed with Liverpool City Council, outlining the key heritage values of the site which will be enhanced by the new proposals.

The Grade 2* Greenbank House will be brought back into use following a sensitive refurbishment, and Derby Old Court – another building identified in the heritage report – will be refurbished to provide contemporary student accommodation.

The development is part of our £230 million plan to build world-class student accommodation.
