The Friends of the University of Liverpool has allocated the latest funding grants to support the work of the University.
In total four awards, amounting to around £26,000 were granted:
- Sport Liverpool – £10,000 towards the purchase of a coxed eight boat for the University rowing club
- Heavy Lift Team, School of Engineering – £850 towards the construction of an aircraft to use in the University of Liverpool Engineering Challenges Society (ULECS) Heavy Lift competition.
- The Garstang Museum of Archaeology – £12,282 for a display case including the installation of Miniclima
- Unmanned Aircraft Systems Team (UAS), School of Engineering – £3,000 to fund the design, building and testing of a fully autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) capable of carrying a 2kg payload for the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Challenge, an inter-university competition held by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.
The committee welcomed Professor Dinah Birch, who has been appointed to replace Professor Michael Hoey on the committee of the Friends of the University of Liverpool. Professor Birch will remain on the committee until the 2017AGM.
The Friends of the University, open to everyone with an interest in the University, was set up in 1984 in order to raise money for the University.
