New supportive Parent & Family Network launched

More than 280 guests were welcomed by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Janet Beer, at a launch event for the University’s new Parent & Family Network.

Managed by the Alumni Relations team, the network will help the University to engage with a new audience and increase its supporter base. The programme aims to keep parents and families connected with life at the University and to allow them to feel part of their student’s future journey.

The Parent & Family Network is free to join and open to anyone with a family member currently studying at the University. Members will be invited to a regular events programme and will receive communications including a bi-annual e-newsletter, the alumni magazine, and the University’s annual report. The University will also offer discounts similar to those offered to alumni for hotels and accommodation.

A supportive environment

Anita Irving, Head of Alumni and Supporter Relations, said: “At Liverpool, students can be sure of a welcoming, supportive environment and we want to create a similar experience for parents and families.  Whilst we recognise that our students are adults and that this is very much their experience, we also value the role that family have played in getting their child to University.”

“There have been successful Parents programmes and networks running in North America for many years while in the UK it is still quite a new concept. There are programmes in operation at the University of Aberdeen, University of St Andrews; University of Leicester and LSE. These programmes have proved successful at engaging a wider audience and creating a bigger resource pool in volunteering for the University.”
