A specially-commissioned art installation created by comic book artist, John Higgins, will light up the exterior of the University’s Victoria Gallery & Museum (VG&M) as part of tonight’s LightNight celebrations.
Visitors are invited to participate in what will be a truly unique spectacle which will see an image of Judge Dredd projected onto the outside of the VG&M as part of the DROAR art installation. Dredd will then direct an army of volunteers to bring to life an enormous `cursed earth’ dandelion. The army in this case will be participants to the spectacle whose pedal power will drive the dandelion animation.
The DROAR installation will take place on University Square starting at 9pm and will come to a close by midnight.
Liverpool-born Higgins found global success as a comic book artist and writer for 2000AD, DC and Marvel and is currently exhibiting the first major retrospective of his work in the VG&M.
The exhibition will be open to the public until midnight with last admissions at 11.00pm and the Waterhouse Cafe will be offering special LightNight food and drink packages, including pizza and a glass of wine or beer for just £7.95.
Other LightNight events on campus
Visitors to the University campus can also visit the Garstang Museum of Archaeology which will open the doors to its latest exhibition the Book of the Dead: Passport through the Underworld featuring never before displayed objects, including magical amulets, coffins and papyri. The Garstang Museum will be open to the public until 10.00pm, and entry is free.
The University’s Roxby Building will also be open to the public offering visitors the opportunity to view the Liverpool skyline from its ninth floor vantage point. This will be available from 7.00pm to 9.00pm and booking on eventbrite is essential. All events are free.
LightNight in the city
