Alongside Culture Liverpool, we’re offering 10 lucky students the chance to sail as a trainee on a Tall Ship this summer.
This is your last chance to apply for the voyages – the deadline for entries is midnight on Thursday, 10 May.
If you’re successful in your application, you will be taught how to work on board the boat, taking on the duties shared by the rest of the crew.
Activities include taking part in a watch system, hoisting sails, climbing the masts, navigating, steering, cleaning and cooking.
The boats also make stops during their voyage where you’ll be able to relax and unwind with your teammates. Previous trainees have seen dolphins swimming beside the boat and, on some of the voyages, you’ll get the chance to take part in a crew party and parade.
No previous sailing experience is required.
The three voyages which are available to apply for as part of the 10 free places are:
If you’re considering applying for the opportunity, please check your exam timetable to ensure the voyage dates do not clash with your upcoming exams or assessments. If the voyage does clash with your exams, but you are still keen to take part, please get in touch with your tutor to discuss. Each case will be considered individually based on your current attainment level on your course.
Transport to Belfast and Dublin from Liverpool as well as back from Dublin will be covered as part of the opportunity, but please note that if you require transport from Liverpool to your home, you will need to organise this yourself.
If you are a mature student, we also have mentor opportunities available. You do not need previous sailing experience for these positions either.
To apply to sail aboard a Tall Ship, please contact Alissa Koopal from Culture Liverpool (0151 233 0904). Alissa will be able to provide further detail about the voyage and the selection process.
The deadline for applications is Thursday, 10 May 2018.
