Things not to miss at Liverpool Literary Festival

The countdown to Liverpool Literary Festival has begun! There is still time to pick up your tickets, either online or at the VGM, but with less than two weeks to go here is our pick of some of the events on offer:

Human rights to poetry

Mona Arshi, human rights lawyer turned award-winning poet, will join Professor Deryn Rees-Jones in conversation. Mona will discuss her move to a literary life, and read from her latest collection, Dear Big Gods’.

Things in Jars

Jess Kidd, winner of the 2016 Costa Short Story Award, will read from her new novel, Things in Jars, before being joined in conversation by Professor Sarah Peverley. Perhaps there couldn’t be a more fitting place for this event than in the Victoria Gallery and Museum, which holds its own collection of ‘things in jars’!

A love letter to the NHS

Molly Case, nurse and author of How to Treat People, a memoir about her experiences of the NHS and how we might help sick people more effectively, will join Professor Louise Kenny to talk about the health service, nursing and why we all need to care about each other just that little bit more.

Brontës through an electro-pop lens

Project Adorno’s Brontë Beat is a performance collage weaving the facts of the Brontë siblings lives with the myths of their fiction. Comprising original songs, film, ambient sounds and spoken word, it explores the multi-faceted world of the Brontës – from their early dabblings in “scribblemania” to the success of their novels and the fascinating history of their all too brief lives.
