Survey to help improve wellbeing support for students

Student Services launched survey to better understand the experiences of both academic and Professional Services staff in supporting students with poor mental wellbeing. Staff have until Friday, 5 June to take part in the survey.

Student mental health has become a topic of focus in higher education with an increasing number of students disclosing a mental health condition to universities. This can bring added pressure to University staff who often find themselves supporting student mental health and wellbeing without feeling fully confident to do so.

Student Services are inviting staff to complete a short survey so they can understand the different training that colleagues across the University may benefit from in order to provide the best support to students.

Julia Purvis, Head of Student Services, explained: “We will use the feedback from the survey to inform the creation and implementation of a mental health and wellbeing training program for University staff so they can feel confident to manage student wellbeing.”

The survey will take approximately five minutes to complete and will close at 1pm on Friday, 5 June.

The University has partnered with mental fitness app Fika during COVID-19 to give all students access to an additional tool to stay motivated, productive, focused and connected during this period of remote work and study.

Support for staff

A range of materials are also available to support staff with their own mental health and wellbeing and can be accessed via the Wellbeing Hub.

New resources have also been launched recently for managers to help support their teams, which can be accessed here and include factsheets one of which specifically focuses on mental health and wellbeing.
