Virtual events, activities and careers support available this week

Whether you are self-isolating, or just staying in more during the lockdown – we know it can be tricky to find things to do to keep busy!

Each week we will round up some of the best virtual events, activities and careers support you can access from home.

1. Take Control of Your Finances

Join Nikkita Tew, founder of Young Spender, as she kicks off a new series of virtual events from beBrave Network with a session focusing on ‘Taking Control of Your Finances.’

2. Visit Liverpool, later: city activities to do at home

Visit Liverpool have put together this collection of activities to take part in at home, whether you are in Liverpool or not, this will definitely give you the feels!

3. Workshop: Living with and Understanding Stress

This workshop will cover everything from taking control of stress to day-to-day mindfulness. Some examples of discussion areas include:

• Biological and Psychological definitions of stress
• Self-care in diet, sleep and exercise
• How to take control
• Problem solving
• How to build on your resilience
• Mindfulness

The session will be delivered via Zoom Webinar with real-time interactive polls and a Q&A at the end of the session.

4. KnowHow sessions

If you need a little bit of guidance during this assessment period, look no further than our KnowHow team. This week they are bringing you two helpful sessions; ‘Answering short answer assessment questions’ and ‘Answering essay style online assessment questions’.

5. Halls Activity Packs

Looking for some fun activities to complete with your flat mates? Book a Halls Life activity pack!

In your pack you can expect:

6. Drop-in to the Virtual Careers Studio

Although the Career Studio has now moved online, you can still continue to work with our Career Coaches virtually.

There are two ways you can access the Virtual Career Studio. You can either drop-in to the Zoom Studio to meet with a Coach online or send the Virtual Career Studio a message on Handshake.

7. Digital Bootcamp from FDM Group: Excel

This session will explore the fundamentals of Excel including formulas, referencing, tables, data cleaning, data validation and filtering.

Ideal if you’re new to using the different features of Excel, or if you already have a basic understanding and looking to refresh your skills!

8. Four skills. Four challenges. Become tomorrow’s leader

If you want to make a positive impact on society by improving the lives of the most vulnerable, you’ll need to equip yourself with FOUR key skills: problem solving, resilience, decision-making and leadership.

9. Student Energy Summit

Student Energy is a global youth-led organization dedicated to empowering sustainable energy future leaders. They are calling on student to complete a Global Youth Energy survey with the findings to be presented at COP26 in Glasgow.

Complete the survey by 31 January and you’ll also be entered into a prize draw for the chance to win $100 or a partial scholarship to attend the next International Student Energy Summit. One lucky student will also win a fully funded package to attend the next Summit, including airfare tickets, accommodations, and meals.
