Author, Charlotte Fisher is a 1st year English Literature student at the University of Liverpool.
As a first year University of Liverpool student who has lived in Liverpool her entire life, I can personally say it holds some of the best days/nights out in the United Kingdom! I am here to share with you my top 5 favourite places to eat and drink in Liverpool.
5. The Merchant
At number 5, I absolutely love the vibes and drinks at The Merchant. The Merchant is consistently busy with students desperate for the pizza slices and gin they have to offer. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and promise a great afternoon/evening out every time! They also cater for vegetarians and vegans with their delicious plant-based pizza options!! Just to top off the immaculate atmosphere, The Merchant provides sensational tunes to accommodate your fun-loving days out.

4. Soho
Closely behind at number 4, Soho makes an appearance! This outdoor/indoor bar is at the heart of Concert Square within walking distance of the best nightlife in Liverpool. It is a great place for pre-drinks and a catch-up (especially when its sunny!) Soho plays the musical classics that you cant help but sing along to. It’s a sun trap on hot days so make sure you get a table to catch a tan!

3. Zodiac Lounge
Number 3 would have to be Zodiac Lounge. This rooftop lounge does exceptional pizzas and a variety of other food options. It is a hot spot for cocktail lovers and is always a bustling and brilliant atmosphere. Zodiac shows the football on huge screens and so it is a great place to socialise when the match is on. My favourite thing about zodiac is the atmosphere and the décor. It’s a great place for Instagram worthy pics too!
2. Yo Sushi!
At number 2 would be the well-known Yo Sushi. Yo Sushi is that restaurant that you just CRAVE to go to. Through the lockdowns I was adamant that my first meal would be the vegan cucumber and avocado maki from Yo Sushi. Yo Sushi has adopted an extremely efficient carousel set up to ensure social distancing and everything can be ordered through the website. The pumpkin katsu curry is to die for and the experience of watching your food be made right in front of you is mesmerising.
1. Down the Hatch
And finally at number 1, Down the Hatch. This plant based fast food is based on Duke Street below pavement level. The burgers, whilst made entirely of plant-based produce, are impressively difficult to finish and the variety of dishes is exceptional. This underground diner is perfect for omnivorous individuals with vegan or veggie friends as the plant-based products are indistinguishable.

Liverpool is a welcoming and vibrant city. We are sure you will enjoy getting out and exploring it, but make sure you do it safely, and in line with current national/local restrictions.
It is your responsibility to keep up to date with national restrictions put in place by the UK Government to try to contain the spread of COVID-19. You can find information about local restrictions for Liverpool on the Liverpool City Council webpages.
