Reminder: What to do if you have COVID symptoms

With COVID cases rising across the country and the next planned relaxation of the current restrictions delayed by four weeks, it’s important to remember that anyone who has symptoms – that is a cough, a temperature, or a loss of taste or smell – should immediately take steps to reduce the chances of infecting others and book a test.

First, you must self-isolate

If you have at least one symptom of COVID-19, it’s really important that you immediately self-isolate. This means staying at your current address (whether that is at home or at your term-time address) and away from others.  You will need to let other members of your household and people you have been in close contact with know that they also need to self-isolate, even if they don’t have any symptoms, in line with UK government guidance.

Next, book a test

Students can book a test at the University’s COVID test centre on campus. If you have difficulties booking online because of a disability, you can book a test by calling 0151 795 1000. You will need your staff or student ID number handy in the booking process (you can find this on your staff or student card).

Testing is limited to students and staff who are displaying symptoms only. If you do NOT have symptoms but wish to access a test, you will need to access the University’s ‘no symptoms’ test.

You can also order a PCR test kit to be sent to your home (it should arrive the day after you order it), or book an appointment at a walk-in or drive-through test site.

Do not leave home until you get your test results, except to post a test kit or for a PCR test appointment.

Tell us that you are unwell

It’s important to let us know that you are isolating by updating the  COVID student intranet page.

By letting us know you are isolating, we are then able to reach out and offer you support, even if you are not on campus. If you need help whilst you are isolating please email Student Services at advice@liverpool.ac.uk

Continue to self-isolate until you get your test results

You should receive the results of your test within 24 hours by text and email. If your result is positive you will need to self-isolate for 10 days from the day your symptoms started and anyone you have been in close contact with will need to isolate for 10 days from the last date you were with each other.

If you have recently tested positive, please make sure to upload your result to the University’s Case Management System: https://contact-tracing.liverpool.ac.uk/

If your result is negative, you can stop self-isolating, but let us know your negative test result by using the University’s Case Management System and contacting all the people you notified of your symptoms.
