Students have been emailed today (27 July) with some important information about resits and retakes. Make sure you read through the detail for advice about what to do if you have been notified of the need to resit or the opportunity to retake either by your academic department, or in the results portal.
A resit is applicable where an assessment or module has been failed and a student has to take an assessment again for progression or classification purposes.
Key information:
- If you have failed any of your assessments when you receive your missing marks, and are required to resit, or choose to retake to improve due to accepted extenuating circumstances, you must do so as outlined in our information sheets on the Results webpages.
- For any failed assessment(s) which you are required to resit or choose to retake to improve, and for which you received marks between the 5 July and the 19 July inclusive, you will be expected to take them in the August resit period (9-27 August 2021) as usual.
- If you have received or are due to receive notification of failed assessment which you are required to resit or choose to retake to improve, on or after 20 July, but before that assessment is due for submission in the August resit period, then you may resit in August. Alternatively, you may opt to take the resit at a later point in semester one (timing to be confirmed, but likely to be no earlier than October). If you resit the assessment in August, you will not be entitled to a retake at a further sitting; this will count as your resit opportunity, so you need to consider this decision carefully.
- If you receive notification of a failed assessment which you are required to resit or choose to retake to improve after that assessment is submitted in the August resit period, then you will need to take the resit at a later point in semester one (timing to be confirmed, but likely to be no earlier than October).
FINAL YEAR STUDENTS ONLY: resits of failed assessments to achieve a classified honours degree without accepted Extenuating Circumstances, must take place at the next ordinary sitting (i.e. January/February or May/June 2022), as indicated in the Code of Practice on Assessment, Appendices I and J.
