Students, staff and societies can now apply for funding of up to £5,000 from the Alumni and Friends Fund. Funding is considered to support activities that offer wide benefit, support the student experience, provide students with opportunities not otherwise available to them (academic or extracurricular), offer long-term benefit and/or enable students and the University to engage with the local community.
What is the Alumni and Friends Fund?
The Fund is the University of Liverpool’s annual fundraising initiative, run by the Development and Alumni Relations team, which raises funds from alumni, graduates, friends and staff. In addition to supporting the University’s fundraising priorities, a proportion of unrestricted funding is made available to fund one-off projects across the University.
Last academic year, the Alumni and Friends Fund grant was awarded to seven projects which met a variety of different needs, including building the first wildlife pond on campus by the University of Liverpool Biodiversity Action Group and kickstarting the development of the Experimental Archaeology Centre at the University’s Botanic Gardens at Ness.
The Photogrammetry Team were also awarded the Alumni and Friends Fund grant to purchase 3 cameras which would allow them to carry out a new COVID-safe method of photogrammetry. Much of the team’s former museum and lab-based work was disrupted due to the pandemic and outdoor photogrammetry activities provided an opportunity for the team to continue their important research.
Dr Ardern Hulme-Beaman, Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellow in the Department of Archaeology, Classics and Egyptology said “We cannot thank enough the Alumni and Friends donors and supporters (and coordination team) for your continued interest and support in the Photogrammetry Teams activities and development. Your support has been instrumental in the establishment of the Photogrammetry Team, which has directly contributed to the educational, and professional development of all members of the team as well as the impact the university has had on the field of photogrammetry in digital heritage.”
Other projects in receipt of the Alumni and Friends Fund Grant include:
- The Liverpool Vet Rugby Team received funding for new training equipment
- The Department of Irish Studies and English were awarded funding to run the ‘Whose History?’ pageant to celebrate the history of the University of Liverpool and its neighbouring communities
- The Liverpool Vet Hockey Team received funding for First Aid Kits and PPE
- The Coping with COVID Podcast received funding to continue producing new episodes with a variety of guests
