Feel Good February – What’s on during Week 2

The University’s Feel Good February programme of events and activities got off to a great start last week!

It’s now Week 2, and below we’ve rounded up our pick of which events and activities to get involved with this week to fulfil each of the ‘6 ways to wellbeing’.

1. Be active

  • Sport Liverpool Walk for Health– Join us on Monday, 7 or Wednesday, 9 February at 1pm outside the Sports & Fitness Centre where the fitness team will be waiting to meet you for your 30-minute walk! There are many benefits including increasing your heart health, reducing stress and anxiety, and building stamina.
  • Weekly Beginners Yoga, Wednesday 9 February 6pm – Join this free, beginner’s yoga sessions running every Wednesday at 6pm. No need to book, just turn up to participate.
  • Rounders Turn Up & Play, Sunday 13 February 1-3pm – Come and join us for a game of Rounders at Greenbank Student Village from 1pm-3pm every Sunday throughout February.

2. Connect

  • National Pizza Day, Wednesday 9 February – Feelgood February is all about taking time to enjoy life…so what better way than by heading to University Square between 10am-2pm to celebrate National Pizza Day! Join us for a free slice of Pizza (first-come-first-served) outside the Harold Cohen Library.
  • Halls DIY Pizza KitsPizza activity packs are first come, first served and will be delivered to your flat.
  • Cinema in the City, Friday 11 February 7pmWe are delighted to announce that our good friends Vietnom will be providing a delicious menu of food and drink at this month’s Cinema in the City film screenings. Film fans will enjoy fresh, colourful and authentic flavours with Vietnom bringing a little bit of Vietnam to the weekend.

3. Keep learning

  • Tech Day, Tuesday 8 February 10am-2pm – In support of Safer Internet Day, come to University Square and find out all about the benefits of technology for our daily lives, wellbeing and future success. Merseyside Police will be on campus to advise on cybercrime and staying safe online, the Digital Coaches will be able to help you brush up on your digital skills, and you can find out all about careers in tech from our Careers and Employability team. No need to book – just turn up!
  • Beekeeping, Wednesday 9 February 2pm Book onto session 2 of our Beekeeping course. Become an expert on the activity in the Guild Beehives, and find out more about honey bees, bee hive structures, swarming and even bee diseases alongside our Queen Bee Beekeeper Andrea from Blackburne House.
  • Crafternoon: Plant Pot Painting, Friday 11 February 3.30-5pm– Come along and decorate your very own plant pot and customise your indoor garden with our plant pot painting workshop. All resources are provided and beginners are more than welcome.

4. Take Notice

  • Cheshire Falconry, Friday 11 February 11am-3pm – The Sustainability Team have a real tweet in store with Cheshire Falconry returning to campus for their renowned falconry display in Abercromby Square. Relax and de-stress in the presence of these wonderful birds, ask the experts and even handle the birds yourself!
  • Sleep – Are you getting enough?, Wednesday 9 February 2pm – Transform Lives will be delivering a Sleep – Are you getting enough session. The session will introduce some key ways and top tips to getting a good night sleep and explore why sleep is so important to support our physical and mental health and wellbeing.

5. Give

  • Dementia Friends Session, Tuesday 8 February 10-11am or 12-1pmAs part of Feel Good February, the Diversity & Equality Team are pleased to invite you to attend this Dementia Friends Session, facilitated by Senior Lecturer in Mental Health at Liverpool John Moores University; and Alzheimer’s Society Volunteer, Dean McShane. A Dementia Friend is somebody that learns about dementia so they can help their community.
  • Volunteer Spotlight, Friday 11 February 12pm– IntoUniversity is an award-winning education charity which provides local learning centres where students from disadvantaged backgrounds are inspired to achieve. Join this session to hear directly from the charity about how you can get involved in supporting their mission.

6. Be sustainable

  • Fiction Book swap – Pop into the Harold Cohen or the Sydney Jones Library every Wednesday in February between 2 and 4pm to swap some of the fiction books you’ve already read and find a new read from others’ donations!
