Your Library: All late return fines removed

The Library Team have removed all fines for late returns on reserved books or laptops, and all existing fines will be cleared from accounts with immediate effect.

Our Libraries are open to all and we want to do all we can to enable students to access our resources. The change in policy means that students will no longer be charged if books or laptops are returned after their due dates.

There’s no need to worry about renewing your books, this is done automatically. Only when another user requests the book, will you have seven days to return the item/s.

New process introduced

The old fines system was in place to encourage people to bring their books back on time. Under the new process now in effect, if a user fails to return a requested item after seven days, their borrowing rights will be frozen until it is returned. If after several reminders the book hasn’t been returned, a lost book fee will still be charged. This fee will be waived if the book is subsequently returned.

For this to work, we need everybody in our library community to play their part. You can check how many books you have and the status of each item online by signing into Library Search, on self-service machines, or via the My Liverpool App.

Can’t find the book you need? Make use of our Get It For Me service. Simply tell us what you need and we will do our best to source it for you as quickly as possible.

We will review the impact of this change at the end of the academic year. If you have any questions or feedback about this new process, please let us know.
