If you’re planning to leave your student accommodation over the winter break it is important to take some simple steps to keep your home and belongings safe whilst you are away.
The team at our student housing service, Liverpool Student Homes, have compiled these tips to make sure your home and belongings stay secure whilst you are away.
- If you are leaving your student property for the winter break, it is a good idea to let your accommodation provider know when you are leaving and coming back.
- Take valuables such as laptops, tablets and games consoles with you or leave them with a trusted friend or neighbour.
- If you’re the last person leaving remember to empty the fridge and bins, unplug electrical items not in use and make sure all windows and doors are secure. Don’t forget to activate your burglar alarm when you lock up.
- Stop your pipes from freezing and bursting by programming your heating to come on for 1 hour per day. If you need help with this, just ask your accommodation provider. You can view other winter weather advice from United Utilities.
- Don’t leave the packaging from expensive goods you have bought outside next to your bin, instead, take it to a recycling bin or tip.
