Blog: Sport Liverpool’s Santa Dash

This year Sport Liverpool invited University of Liverpool staff and students to take part in the annual Santa Dash for free in partnership with the Liverpool’s Lifestyle Medicine Society – Run For All!

125 staff and students joined us on Sunday, 11 December to take part in the annual run, to raise money for a number of children’s charities across Liverpool. The 5k fun run started at the magnificent Pier Head in front of the famous Liver Building, with a crowd of 4,500 Santa’s, most wearing traditional red suits with some blue! Hosts from In Demand Radio, including Lee Butler and celebrities, Duncan Ferguson and Craig Philips counted down to start the Santa’s off on their route around Liverpool.

The 5k route flew through the city centre passing through the Royal Albert Dock and back along the main waterfront roads before turning into the tightly packed streets to finish in front of the Town Hall. Runners were greeted at the finish line with giant Christmas characters and a flurry of snow!

The event really kick-started Christmas and was a brilliant atmosphere for UoL staff and students.

Prajul Vishnu KL took to Instagram to share his experience on the day and commented ‘Dressing up as Santa and running the Santa Dash was one of the best experiences in my University life in Liverpool as a runner’.

This event is part of our move more initiative and we will continue to collaborate with local community events such as the Santa Dash. LMS run weekly ‘Run for All’ sessions across Liverpool for free and will restart after Christmas.

Information on how to join these sessions or future events can be found on our Instagram – @TeamSportLiv.
